I watched this the other day, ‘Walmart: the high cost of a low price’. It’s a great documentary, moving from the effect of the supermarket giant on local American town centres to their effect on the environment, to the wages they pay to factory workers in China.
It mentions Bangladesh again. Workers making clothes for Walmart (and this would include Asda’s ‘George’ clothing) are paid 13 cents an hour. Walmart’s CEO, Lee Scott, earns over $13,000 an hour. And I bet he doesn’t work 14 hour days 7 days a week either.
