Obviously for a lot of people the Christmas stress is the final straw in a struggling relationship, but for others it could be quite impulsive. I wonder if the numbers would fall a little if the lawyers started work two weeks later.

Or a lot of people having sworn to themselves or their friends, “if things haven’t improved by the end of the year, I’m getting a divorce.”

not really a comment on this post (those figures are scary, aren’t they), but the interconnectedness idea made me think of this guy – have you read any of Andrew Goudie’s work? He is a brilliant geographer at Oxford and has argued at length about human impact on the environment (and the relationships between the two).
