Living with a changing climate

There’s a neat interactive feature in the Guardian today that’s well worth a browse. It tells the stories of a series of people whose lives are being affected by climate change, right around the world – a vineyard owner who has to plant higher up the hill each year to get a decent harvest; a Colorado woodsman who has helplessly watched the pine beetles destroy his livelihood; a Russian man who has to keep raising the floor in his family’s home to avoid the damp, and now has to duck to get through the door.

I think it really captures the creeping reality of climate change that is often lost amidst the headlines. The debate is often framed around worse-case scenarios and extremes, but on the ground it is slow, relentless and almost imperceptible, gently testing and straining against the lifestyles we have created for ourselves.
