Jeremy, May I suggest you read "The Delinquent Teenager" by Donna Laframboise?
Her "Citizen Audit" of the 2007 IPCC Climate Bible found that :

"of all 18,531 references cited in the 2007 IPCC report...
........ 5,587 ARE NOT PEER-REVIEWED."

and;

" 21 out of 44 chapters contain so few peer-reviewed references, they get
 an F (59% and below)."

and;

"only 18% of the 44 chapters receive an A grade."

In the words of Rajendra Pachauri, "The UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) is our main customer.."

Since the UNFCCC is an international emissions treaty, what are the chances that the IPCC, working to support an emissions treaty, will produce unbiased reports?

Those who fail to question what they are told, are doomed to believe whatever they are told.

Um, yuo don't actally expect banks to reject financing multi million dollar business oportunities because they mean coal will be burned do you?

A business should be targeting making more money, not reducing money.

If any CEO of a bank actually rejects huge business oportunitues because of coal, they should be replaced imediatly.

cheers

[...] A few weeks ago I wrote about Tearfund’s Unearth the Truth campaign, which calls for transparency in the extractive industries in developing countries. Unless mining companies are forced to disclose how much they pay for mining rights, people have no way to keep the government accountable. Revenues from mining or drilling can vanish, and local people get no share in the wealth of natural resources extracted from their own lands. It is a gift to corrupt officials. [...]

Yes, that's a fair point. The solution is to cut the subsidies however, not to ban the burning of virgin wood. I oppose this campaign because it goes too far, and it would outlaw small and sustainable woodlands-based combined heat and power systems. There are lots of ways of ending perverse subsidies and encouraging other wood using SMEs without going for an all-out ban.
