What we learned this week

Good news for journalism: since the US election last November, the number of people in their 20s and 30s who are prepared to pay for news has soared.

Pollution can be linked to 50,000 deaths in the UK every year, one of the worst records of any wealthy country. In India, 2.5 million people died from pollution related problems.

Have you voted in the Aviva Community Grants funding round yet? Consider casting a vote for 10:10 and their project in Wolverley, where they will be helping a flood-prone community to develop natural flood protection techniques to protect themselves.

As someone with an interest in soil, I was pleased to see the launch of the Sustainable Soils Alliance this week, and to hear Environment Secretary Michael Gove’s comments on this neglected topic.
