Here’s a website with an interesting counter-cultural perspective. The Institute of Brilliant Failures believes that our best learning experiences come from our failures, and that we should not fear them. We should celebrate those who have the courage to try something, even if it doesn’t work.
I agree. I’m an ideas man, and I’ve always appreciated bosses and team leaders that have given me the freedom to fail. Not that you want to make a habit of it, but that kind of support is vital for any kind of innovation.
The Institute is the brainchild of Professor Paul Iske of Maastricht University, and the website has a whole collection of ‘brilliant failures’. There’s even an award for the best learning moment in development cooperation, and you can vote on your favourite well-intentioned failure.
